Opening of Heartland Classics 2016 Boating Season
The Natural State pulled every shade of green from the crayon box to color the mountains of Ouachita National Forest which surrounds Lake Ouchita in Arkansas. Adding to the beauty was a big blue sky and calm waters – a perfect weekend for the Opening of Heartland Classics 2016 Boating Season.
Seven boats represented a diverse spectrum of antique and classic boats. The “Antique” boat was a 1940 Chris Craft 19’ Barrelback owned by Buddy and Sherri Butler. “Woodwind” is symbolic of style and grace on the water and a great ride for her crew.
“Classic” boats included a 1954 Chris Craft 14’ Cavalier owned by Dick & Cara Moist, a 1958 Century 21’ Coronado owned by Kevin & Jeanne Hogan (and Labrador Harley), and a 1965 Carver 17’ Commander owned by Don & Kathy Parker.
“Late Classic” boats added interest and color to the fleet. Mike Yancey led the cruises in his blue 1979 Caravelle 17.5’ I/O. Alex & Linda Barry had fun in the red and white 1968 Cobalt 18’ Bubble Deck.
Forrest & Kally Bryant are so generous in giving rides in their “Contemporary” 1996 Hacker Craft 26’ Double Cockpit.
In all, 26 participants were part of the Friday and Saturday cruises which fit in between all of the eating opportunities offered in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Mountain Harbor Resort (the host venue) and other resorts on Lake Ouachita, and ending on the Belle of Hot Springs Riverboat on Lake Hamilton.
Thanks to all that took part, and especially, Mike Langhorne, chapter president and event organizer. Now, we’re primed for the rest of the season.
