2011 Table Rock Report – Main Event
This “the most fun of all” events started early for six boats, eight couples, on Table Rock’s downstream sister lake, Bull Shoals. Then the size of the group and number of boats increased upon their return to Table Rock on Thursday afternoon. Twenty-three boats and over sixty people enjoyed the whole weekend of food, fun and friendship all centered around using our classic boats on the water on beautiful Table Rock Lake.
John and Carolynn Thompson led us in their 1961 Higgins for the pre-event and in their 1984 Skiff Craft, which served as a taxi for many, for the Friday and Sunday cruises and the great Saturday evening sharing of a meal and their lake house.
Dick and Cara Moist served as co-hosts throughout the event and starred in their roles Friday evening at the Ozarks Yacht Club and then on the Saturday cruise to Coyotes Dockside Restaurant owned by a Heartland Classics member, David Bauer.
Friday’s 65 mile round trip cruise went up the beautiful James River Arm of Table Rock Lake to Cape Fair, Missouri for a great lunch at Koppies and service at the new marina.

2011 Table Rock Report – Bull Shoals Pre-Event
Six boats with twelve classic boaters and two additional couples in vehicles–joining for the land stops– participated in the first Heartland Classics Chapter’s Bull Shoals Lake 80+ mile round-trip cruise as a pre-event to this year’s Classic Cruisin’ Weekend on nearby Table Rock Lake. Additionally, Don and Kathy Parker, chairs of Classic Cruisin’ Weekend, helped launch the boats from the Sugarloaf Harbor Marina at Diamond City, Arkansas before hurrying back to take care of last minute duties for the coming weekend.
Originally the Bull Shoals pre-event cruise of June 8th and 9th had been planned to be over 130 miles of round-trip cruising but record high water still had marinas in the upper reaches of the lake without power and services necessitating the revised float plan. With temperatures in the low to mid 90’s, a slightly shortened cruise seemed just right.

Sunnyland’s Lake Dora Boat Show
Perfect weather in a beautiful setting! Sunnyland Chapter of ACBS hosted the 2011 kickoff boat show for 100’s of participants and 1,000’s of spectators at Wooten Park in Tavares, FL on the shores of Lake Dora. This little lake connects to a chain of fresh water lakes through a tropical canal in central Florida. Raceboats were the featured model this year among a wide variety of classic boats.
Besides going to Florida for warm weather in March, many especially love this show because of the fun Flea Market/Swap Meet at the park. Clay Thompson dug through a whole bucket of cleats to find just the right one he had been missing. Kathy Parker has a new set of poles with magnetic ends to make backing up to a trailer hitch a snap. Don Ayers officially greeted the public in the Chris Craft Brass Bell booth. And we all had home-made ice cream and frozen lemonade, of course.
Heartland member Craig Hartwig welcomed all in his role as President of the Sunnyland Chapter. Over a dozen Heartland Classics members were part of the weekend. Four Heartland boats were there;
And we have a Winner, Susan Miller won best Chris Craft. Congratulations !!!

2010 Garvan Gardens Report
Lake Hamilton, located in Hot Springs, AR, was the setting for a classic boat rendezvous and show from April 15th through 18th, 2010.

After an evening of Sam’s pizza, a day cruise around the lake with grilled lunch at Sunset Cove and an evening at Fisherman’s Wharf, the boats moved to Garvan Woodland Gardens for a show open to the public. Many questions were answered and remembrances shared.

Garvan Woodland Gardens is a beautiful 210 acre wonderland of forest and flowers managed by the University of Arkansas. Each year show participants and guests enjoy the park and marvel at the work done by volunteers such as Heartland Classics members Stuart and Diana Perry.

Spring Fling @ Lake Dora

Lake Dora in central Florida was adorned by classic boats the last weekend in March. Sunnyland Chapter and the town of Tavares were great hosts for this annual Rite of Spring.

Larry Nichol’s ARRRGH! Represented the Heartland Chapter. This eye catching XK-19 became a crowd favorite and was easily identified because of Larry’s and Susan Miller’s pirate décor. (Check out the Woody Boater posting on March 30, 2010 and scroll back through several days.)

1959 Riva Ariston #219

by Dan Diehl
In 2009 I went to the Tavares boat show looking for information on restoring my 21’ Cobra. Terry Fiest had his beautifully restored Cobra at the show and I thought I would take pictures of it to help with my project. After finding many of the parts I needed at the show’s swap meet and getting my pictures of Terry’s boat, I was feeling pretty good about my Cobra. My friend Clay Thompson, a knowledgeable and prolific restorer of wooden boats, and I headed for the docks to see the boats that were there for the show. As it turns out, the Marque Class group for the ’09 show was the Riva series of boats. Clay is also an owner of a Riva Aquarama and a Riva 1959 Tritone. When we walked out on the dock, there was an Ariston on each side of the walkway. I was spellbound. I’ve always thought the Cobra had the best lines of any boat ever built but when I saw the Ariston, I put it at the top next to the Cobra. In my mind, these are the two most beautiful boats ever made. Right there, that day, I knew I had to have an Ariston.
