Heartland Classics
From the Helm
Don sold his latest Yellow Jacket. She went home to Texas, very close to where the Yellow Jacket factory was in the 1950s. That was our “story boat” – you know how some boats seem to make everyone who views them want to tell you the story of how they first skied, or helped re-varnish grandpa’s boat, or how an uncle let them help make a wooden boat.
I think there is a new wave of nostalgia and a desire to make those memories come alive in young families again. After each Heartland event, we get phone calls about how to find information, where to locate a boat, and yes, how to find a caring new owner for the boat in the barn.
So my message is to get your boats out there to generate the memories and the interest in classic boats. Wear the new logo so that you become known as a resource for boating information. And have fun in the process. The stories you’ll hear and the people you’ll meet are part of the treasure you own as a classic boater.
It’s also time for nominations to the Board of Directors for new three year terms. Please contact Mike Langhorne, (501) 318-7666, if you have an interest or suggestion. Terms will begin following the election to be held at Grand Lake.
