2011 Beaver Lake Report

Beaver Lake is beautiful and was a pleasant place to be on August 13, 2011.

Seven boats with 20 Heartland members had a great time cruising in their classic boats under party cloudy skies and warm, not too hot, temperatures in this northwest Arkansas lake.

We explored mostly the eastern end of the lake, although some adventuresome folks went all the way to the west end, too, and saw much of the 487 miles of natural shoreline.

Beaver Lake is near the headwaters of the White River and the highest of the Chain of Lakes. Shoreline rock formations, often covered with trees, provide the landmarks along the way.

Irv Capps, who grew up by the river, then the lake, could tell us interesting stories about many of the bays and coves. Come along next year and find out where “Penitentiary Falls” and “Hogscald Hollow”, among others, got their names.

As we cruised, two more classic boats joined us and we look forward to having them join us at Grand Lake. One of their boats was an early ‘60’s Sears outboard, complete with original skis. Quite unique.

Late afternoon we gathered at Guy & Jacque’s house for a great BBQ meal and visiting before heading home.

It’s fun to have this one-day-rendezvous just to enjoy the use of our classics and have a chance to share the hobby with friends.
