2010 Mahogany & Chrome Report
Grand Lake of the Cherokees in northeast Oklahoma hosted classic boaters and their admirers for a beautiful weekend of boating and a judged boat show. Over 50 boats were displayed at the Mahogany & Chrome Boat Festival plus a great showing of outboard motors.
Featured speaker was Lou Rauh from Antique Boat Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, who joined us for the weekend. Members had the chance to visit with Lou about their boats and wishes as well as learn from him about things to look for before buying a wooden boat.

Darren Arnold, was chairman of the event.

Thursday evening started with pizza for the early arrivals. It’s always fun to see good friends who come together from across our six state area – and also meet new members who are able to join us.
Friday was cruise day and the weather was PERFECT! Thirteen boats started out from Arrowhead Marina to cruise up the lake and others joined us along the way until there were two dozen. Great hospitality met us at the new Landings Marina and Restaurant for lunch. Then on to tour Honey Creek and then dock at Royal Bay. A shuttle bus was available to take visitors to Grove for exploring. After dinner, we all enjoyed a sunset cruise back to Arrowhead.
Official judging took place on Saturday morning. And a new Junior Judging Event took place in the afternoon. Chick Wheat instructed the young judges on things to look for on classic boats. Hagerty Insurance sponsors this activity and provides the shirts, caps, and scorecards. Even the dog paid close attention.
Jim Conner, who coordinated the Friday cruise, also generously gave rides to the visitors at the show. Everyone came back with a smile and more appreciation for classic boats.

Really good food, an interesting speaker, and awards topped off the Festival on Saturday night. Among those awards was the President’s Cup given by Kathy Parker to Forrest Bryant for his contributions to the chapter this year. Forrest designed the new logo, became the new editor of our newsletter, and revived the Ship’s Store with quality, fun merchandise.

Many stayed for lunch and door prizes on Sunday noon at Cherokee Yacht Club. Everyone left with fun memories of the Best Ever Mahogany & Chrome Boat Festival.
