Oh, what a beautiful mooring! 128 pristine antique and classic boats in one place were amazing to see in one setting, that being Bay Harbor, Michigan, for the Annual ACBS Show.

The members of the Water Wonderland Chapter of northern Michigan were wonderful hosts and provided exciting adventures in their blue water lakes. Six Heartland Classics members attended the whole week and brought home even more ideas for our chapter and for the 2012 Annual Meeting and Show which we will be hosting at Big Cedar Lodge on Table Rock Lake.

The Rover Award also came home to the Heartland Chapter as it was awarded to John Thompson for planning and implementing the two-day cruise on Table Rock Lake with an overnight stay in Eureka Springs, AR. Congratulations, John!
Pre-event boating opportunities took place on three near-by lakes. In spite of some wind and rain, we loved seeing the scenery and having the opportunity to have fun using our boats.

As we entered Mullett Lake from the Indian River, the captain sets the GPS to track our way as we head for open water.
The peaceful calm of Indian River was welcome after being tested by 3’ seas.
One tour provided during the pre-events was an open house at the Winn (of Four Winns Boats) home. Upon entering the front door, the view through a windowed wall was down into the boat house which had six classic boats docked in the water and many more hung at various heights in the three story showcase. Such gracious hosts sharing an amazing collection.
During the show, official judging took place. Michigan, itself, the home of Chris Craft, Century, Gar Wood, and more, brought out their best and those boats were joined by perfect and “the near perfect” boats from around the country. Choosing winners had to be difficult! Click here to see the winners on a video clip put together by Antique Boat Center and posted on YouTube.
Junior Judging also took place. Here is the new generation of judges with their clipboards learning from Diana Shotwell and Jim Shotwell. They’re decked out with shirts and caps and score sheets provided by Hagerty Insurance.
Watch for a similar scene at the upcoming Grand Lake Festival.
Here are a few more of the outstanding classic boats preserved for both our enjoyment in the water and our appreciation of their artistry.
