Spring Fling @ Lake Dora

Lake Dora in central Florida was adorned by classic boats the last weekend in March. Sunnyland Chapter and the town of Tavares were great hosts for this annual Rite of Spring.

Larry Nichol’s ARRRGH! Represented the Heartland Chapter. This eye catching XK-19 became a crowd favorite and was easily identified because of Larry’s and Susan Miller’s pirate décor. (Check out the Woody Boater posting on March 30, 2010 and scroll back through several days.)

Other Heartland Members attending were Don Ayers, Dick Baner, Leo and Rosemary Brisco, Guy McCollum, and Don and Kathy Parker. Heartland friends, Craig Hartwig and Bill and Kay Joslyn were active in the show.

A picnic destination enticed participants to travel through the Dora Canal into Lake Eustice and then Lake Harris.

This tropical environment was the home of gators and exotic birds.

Century Boats were featured during the show as well as amphicar splash-ins and sea-plane touch downs. Miss America IX, a 1930 thunderous 30’ racer originally raced by Gar Wood.

Gail Turner, ACBS President, challenged all participants to attend one more event this year which they hadn’t gone to before. Now, that’s a fun challenge we all can enjoy.
